My Secret Life: Vol. 1-3

I first read this book almost 50 years ago when I was a teenager - and it made a big impression on me then and probably helped me form some of my open - and I think healthy attitude - towards my sexuality and my relationship with my future wife in particular.Although the attitudes towards women have changed over the last 150 or so years since it was written - it gives an interesting view on how the Victorian men particularly viewed women and the many sexual acts which it describes in graphic detail.

For its time this is a book/dairy like no other .It is a very erotic,honest,portrayal of one victorian gentlemans sexual history,covering at least forty years.But this book is more than that.I admit i was shocked when i first started to read it.It really opened my eyes to what i had always suspected,that victorian society was not as straight laced has it appeared.My Secret Life is invaluable in showing what the social history of victorian times was really like.The differance in the classes,prostitution being the only way a woman could survive alone.The author is very careful to avoid identification,wanting to remain anonymous.Who was Walter?We may never know,but if you read any of the volumes of this dairy,you will not forget him in a hurry...
